"It is no measure of health to be well adjusted to a profoundly sick society."
Krishnamurti, 1975
Krishnamurti said this in 1975.
To me, and most of us it feels like 1975 was actually better place than today.
That might not be categorically true: prices were rampant, wars were being waged, cost of living was high, with new invisible wars happening.
The modern alignment of inflation and a tech-driven Cold War echoes the oil crises and geopolitical fractures of the 1970s. A philosophical reminder that whether through industrial oil or autonomous AI, humanity continuously invents new machinery to fuel the same old cycles of division.
So if the world hasn't changed that much in terms of the problems, power and control - then neither has the measure of health to be adjusted to it.
I guess the difference back then was that it was felt, before it was understood. If you didn't seek the news in the 70s, you probably just adjusted and dealt with the consequences in your life.
Today, with access to the entire worlds information in the palm of your hand makes it difficult to avoid some opinion and existential dread with which to adjust.
Even so, you still have the same choices you always did - become locked in to contributing to that society, or taking a different path to contributing to a different one for you and maybe those around you
To do that you need to get weird - because if you are not weird - ie the same as everyone else - you're adjusting yourself and your life to accepting that which will never change: so neither will you.
My kids use a term for people who appear in real life like they do in video games: NPCs - Non Player Characters - bystanders who don't contribute anything to the narrative of the result of the game and their own life. They get in the way of the main characters, shout abuse, bump into walls. Every time you switch the game on, there they are, watching life past them by while the exciting stuff, the point of the game, and winning it, is controlled by the person in control if it.
You are the main character in this game you call life.
And the thing about main characters is that they usually stand out. They do stuff most people don't do.
And because they stand out, everyone else, the NPCs call them weird.
So - can you get weird?
And more importantly, can you like being weird?
This is the stuff I'm thinking about today.
And it's what we talk about inside Sovereign Soul. And then we do something about it.
If you want to join us weirdos doing something about - it reply 'weird' and I'll share how we're making it accessible for as many people as possible.
Happy Sunday
